Walmart is now the latest retailer to close its doors early amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Walmart says beginning Thursday, most of its stores will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8:30 p.m.

The change comes just days after Walmart announced it would only be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Many of Walmart's 4,700 U.S. stores are normally open 24 hours a day. But the company says the most recent change will allow its employees more time to restock shelves and clean the stores.

Walmart is also designating specific shopping hours so that customers 60 and older, who are more likely to get severely ill if they catch the virus, can safely pick up their groceries. From March 24 through April 28, stores will open an hour early on Tuesdays for those customers.

TargetWhole Foods and grocery giant Albertsons have made similar accommodations for older or otherwise at-risk customers.
