The U.S. State Department is telling people not to travel to China at all.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced a Level 4 travel advisory late Thursday for the country. He cited the World Health Organization's decision to declare a public health emergency of international concern over the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

New cases of the virus are being reported every day. It's killed at least 213 people and infected more than 9,800 others.

The virus originated in Wuhan, China — a city of 11 million people. It's since spread to all of mainland China's 31 provinces and more than 20 other countries. Both Russia and the U.K. announced their first confirmed cases of the virus Friday.

In an effort to try to contain the spread of the coronavirus, dozens of countries are implementing various types of travel restrictions for Chinese citizens. Those restrictions range from conducting temperature checks and health screenings to actually closing their borders to people from mainland China.
