A U.S. service member has died in Iraq while assisting the Iraqi Security Forces in an operation, according to officials.
A statement from the U.S. Central Command says the service member died while "advising and accompanying" an ISF mission. The statement says the service member's name will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
The news arrives as Iraqi forces have been working to drive out remaining members of ISIS in the northern part of the country.
A recent report from the Defense Department suggested ISIS was still a threat, with members consolidating in Iraq and resurging in Syria.
