SHOW TRANSCRIPT

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed a bill that will provide back pay for federal workers affected by the ongoing partial government shutdown.

The Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019 will compensate those workers "for wages lost, work performed, or leave used" beginning on Dec. 22, 2018. They'll be paid when the shutdown ends.

It's expected that around 800,000 federal employees will be paid due to the bill, which also guarantees back pay for furloughed employees in any future shutdowns.

The government shutdown is now the longest in U.S. history, standing at 26 days as of Wednesday. It stems from a dispute between Democrats and President Trump over funding for a border wall.
