Trump has referenced the "deep state" on other occasions. And former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and Fox News' Sean Hannity have promoted the conspiracy.

Trump's son Eric Trump also tweeted Tuesday suggesting Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Ellen Degeneres are all part of the so-called "deep state."
