SCOTUS Vacates Case Involving Transgender Teen Gavin Grimm

The case centers around 17-year-old Gavin Grimm from Virginia and involves protections for LGBTQ students.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to make a decision Monday on a high-profile case involving a transgender teen from Virginia.

Seventeen-year-old Gavin Grimm initially sued his Virginia school board for not letting him use the boys restroom. Grimm was born a female but identifies as male.

Previous guidelines allowed students to use the restroom that corresponded with their gender identity, but President Trump's administration recently withdrew those guidelines. In a letter, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said because of legal confusion, this issue is best settled on the state and local level.

Which is exactly where Grimm's case goes next. The Supreme Court was supposed to hear arguments regarding this case in late March but is now suggesting the case go back to a lower court for reconsideration.
