SHOW TRANSCRIPT

Sam's Club, in partnership with several health care companies, is set to begin a heath care pilot that would give members discounts on certain routine health care services.

Beginning in October, Sam's Club members in Michigan, Pennsylvania and North Carolina can buy "bundles" that will include discounts on things like prescriptions, dental services and preventative lab screenings.

The program is meant to help members with "a higher burden of healthcare costs," such as people with high-deductible plans and small business owners. But Sam's Club stressed that this a discount health program, not a health insurance plan.

In a press release, Sam's Club said: "Access to high-quality maintenance healthcare has been shown to improve overall, long-term health. We believe this program will help our members decrease out-of-pocket costs so they can better manage their budgets and their health."

According to The Associated Press, a Sam's Club official said the pilot program could potentially expand to every state.
