Andrea GonzalesRegulators have accused the same California utility company under scrutiny for this year's devastating Camp Fire of falsifying records about pipeline safety violations – even after it was convicted for a 2010 gas explosion that killed eight people.
The California Public Utilities Commission said its investigation found that between 2012 and 2017, the Pacific Gas and Electric Company "lacked sufficient staffing to locate and mark natural gas pipelines in compliance with law." The commission said the company "pressured supervisors and locators to complete the work," which led its staff to falsify data so requests wouldn't appear to be late. The report also said supervisors and locators had "common knowledge" about the falsified data.
This news comes as PG&E faces multiple lawsuits and major scrutiny for its possible role in this year's Camp Fire, which was California's deadliest and most destructive fire.
