One of the most talked about moments from the 2018 Tony Awards didn't involve any Broadway stars.

Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, received a standing ovation Sunday after their tear-jerking performance of "Seasons of Love" from the musical "Rent."

Their drama teacher, Melody Herzfeld, was honored with a Tony award for excellence in theater education during the ceremony.

Herzfeld and 65 of her students hid inside her office for hours during a Feb. 14 shooting at the school that left 17 people dead.

The award Herzfeld received is given each year to a K-12 educator "who has demonstrated monumental impact on the lives of students." She also received $10,000 for her theater department.
