Jake JonesAfter NFL owners changed the league's rules to require players on the field to stand during the national anthem or pay a fine, at least one team says it will cover the cost.
New York Jets chairman Christopher Johnson told Newsday on Wednesday that players for the team had the right to express themselves and were free to do so without fear of suspension or financial penalty.
Johnson said he or the team would pay the fine, not Jets players. Last year, Johnson appeared on the field and linked arms with players as a sign of solidarity.
Johnson said he would prefer players stand for the anthem but that he understands if they feel a need to protest.
