Johnson & Johnson lost its bid to overturn a multi-billion dollar verdict awarded in a lawsuit over the safety of some of its products.

On Wednesday, a circuit court judge in St. Louis ruled against Johnson & Johnson's motion to reverse a nearly $4.7 billion jury verdict awarded to women who claimed they'd gotten ovarian cancer from using the company's talcum powder products.

Just a few days ago, multiple news outlets reported the company tried to cover up test results showing its baby powder and talc products contained small amounts of asbestos.

The company has repeatedly said it believes its talc products, including baby powder, are safe and do not contain asbestos.

Johnson & Johnson plans to appeal Wednesday's decision and said in a statement it's confident an appeals court will overturn the ruling.
