After a nearly four-year hiatus, NBC interrupted the Olympics Saturday night to announce its hit sci-fi series "Heroes" will be back next year.

The show aired originally from 2006 to 2010. 'Heroes Reborn' is expected to run for 13-episodes but the characters have yet to be announced. In a press release NBC Entertainment President said...

“The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening ... the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”  (Via NBC)

During it's first season, the series had an average audience of 14.5 million viewers. It was nominated for a Golden Globe, won a BAFTA, AFI and two People's Choice awards.

Entertainment Weekly explains, "The show got off to a strong start in both ratings and acclaim, then was widely considered to have creatively collapsed into a confused muddle and became a serialized TV cautionary tale."

Regarless, it does seem like the come back is getting people taking. 'Heroes Reborn' Twitter account already has more than 35 thousand followers and with the hashtag heroes reborn the Twitter-sphere is buzzing with excitement.

As of now, the details of what we can expect from the new season are being kept under wraps and there's no exact air date just yet.
