The Department of Homeland Security is launching a new center aimed at preventing cyberattacks.

During the department's National Cybersecurity Summit, DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen announced the National Risk Management Center. It will be focused on protecting America's critical infrastructure from digital attacks. Vice President Mike Pence heralded the new effort.

"This new center will be the gateway for American companies who want to work with the federal government more closely to strengthen our shared cybersecurity," Pence said.

Critical infrastructure includes things like dams, health care, nuclear reactors, the water system and some manufacturing. Nielsen said the center will first focus on the financial services, telecommunications and energy sectors.
