As students returned for the first full day of classes at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School since the deadly mass shooting there three weeks ago, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was also there.
"I come committed on behalf of this administration to continuing to work to find solutions so that no student and no parent ever has to go through what this community has had to endure," DeVos said.
One solution DeVos discussed after touring the school — arming teachers.
"I think to say 'arming teachers' is oversimplification and a mischaracterization, really," she said.
The Trump administration's "concept" she said would be to have people who are expertly trained defend schools.

"So the standards are held very, very high, and I think that is a model that can be adopted and should be an option for schools, for states and communities," DeVos said.
Some students and teachers criticized DeVos' visit, calling it a photo op due to her limited interaction with them.
