People in Martin County, Kentucky, have lived without clean water for at least the past 18 years after a coal slurry accident sent arsenic- and mercury-filled sludge into the water supply. Some people still drink the water. Others have been drinking bottled water and using it to shower and wash their dishes. This winter, the problem took an even darker turn. Many people have seen their water turned off for days at a time.
