The Federal Communications Commission says it needs more time to review a proposed merger between T-Mobile and Sprint.

In a letter addressed to executives of both companies the FCC said it paused an "informal 180-day transaction shot clock" after receiving “newly submitted” information earlier this month.

This includes additional information about a business model and a "substantially revised network engineering model."

The FCC says the clock will remain paused until the companies submit all necessary information and the commission can then review that information.

Sprint and T-Mobile announced their merger in April. They are the third and fourth largest wireless carriers in the United States based on subscribers.
